IN the second week of Premier Division games of the 2009-10 season, and the first week of the First Division, there were no real ‘shocks’ to start the season, but some teams are already finding it tough.
Old Xaverians made it three wins out of three in the Premier Division, Birchfield falling 4-2 to the co-league leaders. Carl Gargan and Paul Cross were Xavs’ goal heroes with doubles apiece. Paul Johnson and John Connolly netted for Birchfield.
Sharing top spot are defending champions Waterloo Dock who enjoyed a comfortable 4-0 victory over George Mahon Cup finalists Lucas Sports.
Leighton McGivern with a brace aided by another strike by Joe Roberts and a Paul Kelly effort were Dock’s marksmen.
Page Celtic are celebrating their first win, a 2-1 success over newcomers Albany Athletic. Aaron Branwell found his scoring boots with a smart brace for the Celts. Albany replied through Jay Graves.
Fords and Red Rum shared the points in a 1-1 draw which leaves both sides on four points and mid-table slots, Mark Bushell for the Rum and Andy Morris for Fords were the scorers.
Third-placed St Aloysius were the top scorers in the top flight, 5-1 over Kingsley United. Jamie Henders with the day’s only treble in the division and a brace from Paul Wheeler helped see off the spirited Kingsley side who netted via Ray Sefton.
Aigburth PH are also on the march after a smart 4-2 home win over Cheshire Lines. John Lally and Mick Hannaway were on the scoresheet again for APH, whilst John Dowd and Adam Joseph replied for Cheshire Lines.
Finally, South Liverpool, the winners of the George Mahon Cup, are struggling for form, and lost again by a solitary goal, this time to East Villa, Kevin Reilly on target.
