Vase shocks for Vodkat league clubs

DREAMS of FA Vase glory and a visit to Wembley next May were dashed for several Vodkat League clubs.

Premier Division Runcorn Linnets were a major casualty after suffering a shock 2-1 defeat at Division One club Daisy Hill.

In a thrilling end to end game the home side gained a two goal lead at the break, thanks to a Daniel Gregory brace.

After the interval Robert Whyte reduced the deficit but the Linnets were unable to add to it.

Ashton Town were always struggling after conceding a first minute goal at home to Worsborough Bridge Athletic who ran out 3-1 victors, Stephen Edwards netting a late consolation.

Winsford, however, bucked the trend by recording a single goal win over Northern Counties East side Parkgate, Craig Hoyland’s 48th minute strike earning his side a trip to Oldham Town next.

League action saw St Helens Town return to winning ways with a comfortable 4-0 success at Formby, Rob Hanley and Graeme Mitchell notching two goals apiece.

Bootle stayed third following a 3-1 home victory over Atherton LR, Anthony Miley, Ian Johnson and Andy Fowler netting.
