Draw costs Southport

SOUTHPORT missed the chance to keep pace with the leaders in the Blue Square North after drawing at Damson Park on Saturday.

Solihull took a 12th-minute lead when Craig Mills profited from goalkeeper Tony McMillan’s mistake to fire in a free-kick from 25 yards, 60 seconds after Port striker Steve Daly wasted a one-on-one opportunity.

The Sandgrounders dominated the second period and after some sustained pressure defender Kevin Lee bundled in Paul Barratt’s corner in the 76th minute.

Port went in search of the winner but Solihull hung on to claim a point to frustrate Southport who remain second in the division, but now two points adrift of leaders Droylsden.
