Vodkat League round-up

PAUL FILDES proved to be Runcorn Linnets’ hero in their Vodkat League Premier Division clash at Abbey Hey who have registered only one victory this season.

The Manchester-based side grabbed a second minute lead before Fildes pounced with a second-half double to ensure the Linnets got the points.

IAN DYSON struck twice for St Helens Town in their 4-0 success over Nelson. The Mitchell brothers, Graeme and Phil, also found the target for the Saints.

BOOTLE were unable to breach a strong Newcastle Town rearguard that held firm to record their eighth clean sheet of the campaign. Ryan Dicker struck a ninth minute winner for the Staffordshire side.

ASHTON ATHLETIC were denied victory by an injury-time equalising penalty by Bacup Borough as the sides shared the spoils in an eight-goal thriller. Two goals apiece from Matt Hampson and Paul Prescott were Athletic’s marksmen.

FORMBY fell to their third consecutive defeat with visitors Flixton grabbing control of the game with three first-half strikes. Paul Hopkins replied for the Squirrels in either half in a 3-2 defeat.

AFC LIVERPOOL lost vital ground at the top of the First Division table following a 2-1 reverse at Barnoldswick Town. Mark Bloxham netted for the Reds two minutes from time.
