Bootle match off after motorway horror smash

BOOTLE hit the headlines in the Vodkat League for all the wrong reasons with their game at Maine Road having to be hastily postponed.

Travelling to the game, three cars transporting players and officials of the club was involved in a multi vehicle car accident on the M60 between Junctions 10 and 11 which required the motorway to be closed for a period of time. A number of people were taken to local hospitals but thankfully no serious injuries were sustained.

A sixth minute opener from Dennis Sherlock set Runcorn Linnets up for a 3-1 home victory over a revitalised Colne side, Paul Fildes and Jay Edwards also netting in the closing stages.

St Helens Town lost vital ground in the Championship title race when going down 3-0 at leaders Newcastle Town and Ashton Athletic lost by a similar scoreline at Padiham.
