Cables make connection to beat high-flying Town

PRESCOT CABLES produced the performance of the weekend by inflicting a first league defeat of the season on high-flying FC Halifax Town.
Dale Wright bagged the only goal of the game on 74 minutes to give the Valerie Park side the three UniBond League First Division North points and move them up to ninth in the table.
The defeat leaves Halifax Town in fourth place, one position behind Skelmersdale United continued their impressive form with a 3-1 win at Garforth Town.
A goal in the first minute from Chris Almond and a double from Mark Houghton gave the visitors a three-goal advantage before Tom Greaves grabbed a consolation for Garforth.
In the First Division South, Cammell Laird battled to a 2-2 draw at Quorn.
Ex-Premier League striker Julian Joachim gave the home side the lead on the half hour but two quick-fire goals just before half time from Anthony Gardner and Ian Cooke gave Lairds the lead.
However they could not keep hold of their advantage as Anthony Marriott leveled the game on 66.
In the Vodkat Premier Division, St Helens Town were thrashed 5-1 at home to Glossop North End.
The visitors established a five goal lead inside 50 minutes before Fargher pulled back a consolation goal in the final minute.
Runcorn Linnets beat Bootle 3-1 with strikes from Balazs (11), Case (40) and Webb (85).
Formby’s match at Padiham and AFC Liverpool's trip to Oldham Boro, were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
