HESWALL stayed in the running for the Carlsberg West Cheshire League Division One title following a 2-1 victory at Ellesmere Port as Peter McNulty scored for the hosts – but it was the visitors who profited after a double from Matty Millington.
Reigning champions West Kirby maintained interest after a solitary Paul Hughes effort beat Castrol Social but Cammell Laird Reserves’ celebrations were aborted after their tussle with Vauxhall Motors was abandoned on 76 minutes due to a serious injury when they were three up.
Christleton had two goals from Sean O’Rourke to seal a 2-0 result at Blacon YC while Newton top scored with a 6-1 victory at Upton AA.
A Lee Kissock double was supplemented by Kevin Wright, Keith Gray, Kevin Duncalf and Anthony Carroll. Upton’s consolation came from Paul Broster.
In Division Two, Ashville’s revival continued via a 5-1 blitz of Capenhurst Villa. Andy Kingham and Adam Johnson both struck twice and a single from Matty Singleton completed matters.
Mossley Hill Athletic recaptured top spot thanks to a 2-1 victory over Grange Athletic as Callum Holmes and Paul McNeill bagged the goals and Bronze Social had Tommy Fardoe, Lee Dermody and Anthony Anglesey find the net in the 3-1 eclipse of Heswall Reserves – Gordon Harrison claimed the hosts’ reply.
StWerburghs lost out when goals from Sean Kearney, Paul Wells and Phil Duncan inspired Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves to a 3-2 success in a depleted Division Three card and Ellesmere Port Reserves had a goal from James Marynaik to thank in their win at Capenhurst Villa Reserves.
In Division Three, Hale breezed into the fourth round of the Liverpool County FA Intermediate Cup by winning 6-1 at Birkdale Crown with goals from Paul Hart (2) Wayne Smith (2), Andy McIntyre and Fassili Poza.
After a 3-3 stalemate, Maghull overcame Stoneycroft 4-2 on penalties in the County FA Challenge Cup third round and in the Junior Cup third round it was celebration time for Marshalls after Joe Dickson (2) and Richie Jones obliged in the 3-1 verdict over Whiston Cross.
Mayfield’s moved into the County FA Youth Cup third round after two-goal Ben Backley called the shots in the 4-3 win over Formby and Widnes Town joined them in the hat following a 2-1 success over Real Santos. Aaron McGarvey plundered both goals for the victors.
