A YOUNG Tranmere side were unable to withstand a strong Walsall fightback in a finely balanced Puma Youth Alliance League encounter in the West Midlands.
Rovers, playing some good football in spite of the wet and blustery conditions, were ahead at half-time thanks to Jon Conchie’s 17th-minute strike.
They doubled the advantage when Ross Rule scored on 50 minutes.
The Saddlers created chances throughout the 90 minutes and after missing some opportunities early on in the game, hit the target three times in the final 20 minutes.
Tranmere withdrew some of their more experienced players during the second half and had half a dozen under-16 players on the field by the end.
