Vauxhall relishing Trophy clash

VAUXHALL MOTORS will be looking to put indifferent league form behind them when they travel to Quorn in the FA Trophy third qualifying round tomorrow.

The Motormen are struggling at second bottom of the Blue Square North but with recent success in the Cheshire Senior Cup as inspiration, Carl Macauley’s men will hope the trip to Leicestershire will yield a confidence boosting victory.

Quorn, who play at the Farley Way Stadium, are third bottom of the UniBond First Division South table and lost their last match against Grantham Town 3-1.

But Quorn did knock out UniBond Premier Division high-flyers Boston United out in the second qualifying round 3-2.

Blue Square North league leaders Southport face a tricky test at Zamaretto Premier Division side Stourbridge.

Port’s lead at the top of the table was cut to four points last weekend after a 1-1 draw with Ilkeston Town but opponents Stourbridge, despite reaching the FA Cup first round, are struggling in their league, fourth from bottom.

Meanwhile, troubled UniBond Premier Division club Burscough go in search of a much-needed win when Buxton are the visitors to Victoria Park tomorrow.

With no win their last four league encounters, the Linnets have slipped to 14th in the table, making Saturday’s match with the 17th-placed Bucks a game of importance.

Marine, who are 12th in the standings, welcome Whitby Town to the Arriva Stadium looking to avenge an October 1-0 defeat.
