ELLESMERE PORT stormed into the last eight of the Cheshire Amateur Cup courtesy of a 3-0 victory over Cheshire Association title hopefuls Middlewich Town in a weather-dominated weekend.
Goals from Mike Jones, Andy Walker and Peter McNulty steered Kevin Mulville’s side to success.
Another West Cheshire triumph came courtesy of Newton who had Steve Jones netting the game’s only goal as they blew away the challenge of Manchester League outfit Stockport Georgians.
A six-goal thriller warmed the spectators at Green Lane where Second Division AFC Bebington took top sphere rivals Willaston to a replay. Regular marksman Graham Carvell bagged a brace for the hosts who also had Matty Earp on target while Dave Forbes, Robbie Foulkes and Tom Coan struck for Willaston.
A second attempt is also required after a goal drought between Barnton and Chester Nomads.
Castrol Social squeezed out Ashville 2-1 as Bob Stockton and Jamie Halligan posted for the First Division outfit with Adam Johnson replying for Ashville.
In the reduced Division One programme Cammell Laird Reserves surged back to the top of the table after defeating Marine Reserves 5-1.
Martin Trimble gave Lairds an early lead which was wiped out by a Kearan Molyneux snap shot.
An Alan Bull free-kick restored the advantage before the break while a trough of successful second half strikes by Josh Duress, Bull and Jay Shaw completed a nap hand. It was raining goals at Christleton who despite having Ben Carrington (2), and Craig Warrington on target were outgunned by Heswall who had a Nathan Mapletoft hat-trick plus strikes from Jack Ford and Danny Cowell to thank for their 5-3 success.
Ellis Dunning’s goal couldn’t save Blacon YC, who were washed away 5-1 by neighbours Upton AA who had Simon Andrews as their hat-trick hero in a 5-1 victory.
Meanwhile host side Halton (Craig Ireland 2) shared four goals with Maghull (Kevin Browning, Sam Wilkie).
