Caretaker manager Les Parry hails win over Southend as Tranmere’s best performance of the season by far

CARETAKER manager Les Parry described Tranmere’s 2-0 win over Southend last night as “our best performance of the season by far.”

The success, earned by goals from club skipper Ian Goodison and young striker Terry Gornell, wasn’t enough to lift Tranmere off the bottom of the League One table.

But it gave the players a huge lift in confidence.

Parry added: “I was actually disappointed for the lads that we only won by a couple of goals.

“I felt we dominated the first half and had a lot of chances in the second.

“Every single player pulled his weight and gave a 100%.

“The lads in the dressing room were quite quiet after the match because they were so tired.”

Parry added: “We’ve been saying for some time that we needed to match a good performance with a good result so tonight has given us a double whammy of confidence.

“Southend are a big powerful side and we knew if we did not match them for effort and energy they would roll us over.

“As it was we more than matched them in that department.”

Parry hopes he can reinforce his squad with loan players before the deadline for temporary transfers arrives on Thursday.

He says he has a couple of strikers in his sights.
