MANAGER Liam Watson admits his side missed a “great chance” to open a significant gap at the top of the Blue Square North last night.
Steve Daly notched his 50th league goal for Southport to give the leaders a point at Hyde United but Watson was left to rue a number of fine opportunities his side squandered.
Port now move eight points clear at the top of the division having amassed 42 points from their 20 matches, though with a number of the chasing pack having games in hand the boss admits the visit of Solihull Moors to Haig Avenue on Saturday becomes a fixture they must win.
Watson said: “We never performed in the first half, though Hyde didn't look like hurting us, but the lad has had a shot and it has taken a deflection past Tony.
“In the second half we came out and looked more like ourselves but have missed an array of unbelievable chances. We could have easily come away with a 5-1 win.
“But we take it on the chin and look to Saturday now as a must win game because we have missed a great chance to open up a massive gap.”
The Sandgrounders went behind to a shock strike from Tom Manship on 32 minutes but regained parity six minutes after the break through Daly.
