McGinn a tonic with two for Port

SOUTHPORT maintained their lead at the top of the Blue Square North after victory over Solihull Moors on Saturday.

The 3-0 win, thanks to a double strike from Matty McGinn and one from Chris Lever in the second-half, ensured Port kept the eight point gap at the division’s summit.

McGinn’s deflected free-kick gave the home side a 55th minute lead before he doubled their advantage 11 minutes later, latching onto Ashley Winn’s cross.

Defender Lever completed the scoring with seven minutes left.

FIRST half goals from Peter Cumiskey and Steve Hussey gave Marine an impressive win over Stocksbridge Park Steels in the UniBond Premier Division. The Mariners established a two-goal advantage after just 26 minutes as striker Cumiskey (13) and then midfielder Hussey gave the home side a great start. Richard Stacey netted Steels’ late consolation goal.

BURSCOUGH'S Premier Division trip to Worksop Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

IN First Division North, Skelmersdale United kept pace with the front-runners following a 3-1 win at Ossett Albion.

Steve Akrigg gave Skem a 19th minute lead before winger Paul Woolcott doubled the advantage on 67.

Albion pulled one back 10 minutes later through Shane Kelsey but Ryan Wade sealed the points for Tommy Lawson's men five minutes from time.

Prescot Cables continued their fine run with a 2-0 win over Salford City. Two goals in four minutes from Dale Wright (18) and then Phil Rooney (22) gave the Valerie Park side the win.

IN First Division South, Cammell Lairds' resurgence under new boss Alex Hay continued on Saturday when they beat Goole AFC 1-0. A goal five minutes from time courtesy of Daniel Andrews was good enough for the points.

IN the FA Vase second round, Bootle recorded a fine 4-1 win at Penrith.
