TRANMERE returned from a break in Puma Youth Alliance League action lasting six weeks to defeat the Chester City through goals by Max Power and Connor Roberts.
A strong visiting side were comfortable winners. They struck the woodwork three times in a goalless first half before their pressure paid off with an outstanding strike from Power on 65 minutes.
Showing great vision, Power spotted the home goalkeeper off his line to fire a shot from more than 45 yards range into the net. Rovers doubled their advantage 10 minutes later when Dale Jennings was tripped as he rounded the keeper in the box and Roberts put away the resulting penalty kick.
Head of youth Kenny Shiels says he is switching the emphasis from performance and development to results in the second half of the campaign and was happy with a solid show from the side.
Tranmere play host to Oldham Athletic in an Alliance fixture at Raby Vale on Saturday, kick-off 11 am.
