BAS SAVAGE continued his comeback from an Achilles tendon injury with a 90 minute workout in an otherwise disappointing afternoon for Tranmere Reserves at the Kirklands.
A strong Rovers line-up were outplayed by a Wrexham side who were full value for the totesport.com league points. Alan Mahon notched Tranmere’s goal just after the hour -- by which time the home side were two goals down. The strike failed to loosen the visitors’ grip on the game.
Coach Shaun Garnett said: “You can make the excuses that the conditions were difficult and some of our players had not played a competitive game since December but the performance was still a big disappointment.
“Wrexham adapted to the conditions better and we really did not put enough into the game to expect to get anything out of it.”
Tranmere’s line-up included Swedish trialist Robin Kasaniklic.
TRANMERE: Collister, Pursehouse, Broomes, McCready, Benson, Mahon, Macauley, Barnett, Bain (Mackreth 12), Savage, Kasaniklic (Rule 86).
