Bootle shine in a five star performance against Bacup

BOOTLE smashed five past lowly Bacup Borough to move into sixth in the Vodkat Premier Division.

Carl Dale kicked off the rout at the Delta Taxi Stadium in the 43rd minute from the penalty spot before Anthony Hickey hit home a hat-trick, with goals in the 55th, 65th and 82nd minutes.

Chris Tyson grabbed the other for the Bucks in the 68th minute before Ogunmode struck a consolation for Bacup in the 83rd minute.

Chris O’Brien’s men are next in action tomorrow night when they host Ashton Athletic who were beaten 3-0 by Runcorn Linnets at the weekend.

Goals from Atherton (32), Sherlock (77) and Fildes (84) gave the Linnets a comfortable win and one which sees them ninth in the Premier Division standings.

Runcorn host Glossop North End on tonight while Formby welcome Winsford United to Altcar Road.

The lowly Squirrels were beaten 1-0 at home to mid-table Squires Gate who had Osborne’s 77th-minute strike to thank for securing the points.

St Helens Town were denied a valuable point at New Mills on Saturday when Stephen Hall scored in the last minute.

Rob Hanley had given the Town a 33rd-minute lead but Swarbrick levelled 10 minutes later before Hall’s late intervention.

St Helens are seventh in the table and host Colne tomorrow evening.

Meanwhile, in the UniBond First Division North Skelmersdale United went down to a surprise 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Garforth Town.

Prescot Cables were beaten 3-0 by second placed FC Halifax Town in a contest where both sides finished the game with 10 men.

Town’s Tom Baker and Cables’ Paul Lunden were shown red cards.

Cammell laird slumped to a third straight loss, going down 3-0 at Stamford on Saturday.
