THOMAS MOORE came off the bench to give Marine a win over Hucknall Town extending their unbeaten run to six games.
Striker Moore struck three minutes from time to send the Mariners into eighth position, fuelling talk of a late push at the UniBond League Premier Division play-offs.
Kevin Lynch’s men had to overturn going a goal behind to promotion chasing Hucknall after captain Laurie Wilson’s 30-yard free-kick was deflected beyond goalkeeper Tim Dittmer in the 62nd minute.
But the Arriva Stadium side levelled matters just five minutes later when Steve Hussey converted from the penalty spot before Moore grabbed the winner.
The Whites move onto 40 points from their 29 games and are next in action on Saturday when they host Matlock Town.
Meanwhile, in the Blue Square North it was a disappointing afternoon for both Vauxhall Motors and Southport. Despite taking a 46th-minute lead through loanee Josh Macauley, the Motormen crashed to a heavy defeat at Corby Town, who bagged three goals in seven minutes in reply to going behind.
Leon Mettam equalised on 48, Jack Defty gave them the lead two minutes later before Mettam added his second on 55 to complete a stunning turnaround for the hosts. Defty doubled his tally for the afternoon with 10 minutes to go, bringing Vauxhall’s two game winning streak to an abrupt end with a 4-1 loss.
Carl Macauley’s men slip to second bottom in the standings after Gainsborough Trinity’s surprise, but well deserved, point at second placed Southport on Saturday.
Brian Little’s men served to frustrate a well below par Sandgrounders who only created a few clear cut chances on an afternoon of little joy for the Haig Avenue faithful who watched on as their team drew 0-0.
Port stay second, now seven points behind leaders Fleetwood Town but with three games in hand, the first of which will be played tomorrow night at Stalybridge Celtic, kick-off 7.45pm. Vauxhall are not in action again until Saturday when they travel to Gloucester.
