Les Parry faces selection dilemma for Tranmere’s trip to Bristol Rovers

MANAGER Les Parry must resolve a clutch of selection dilemmas before Tranmere launch back into the battle for League One survival at Bristol Rovers tomorrow.

Ash Taylor, Bas Savage, Shaleum Logan and Chris McCready can all make pressing claims for a recall to the starting line-up at the Memorial Ground as Rovers seek to bounce back from a 4-1 home defeat to Leeds United in midweek.

Teenage prospect Taylor marked his comeback from a hamstring injury by playing 70 minutes of a reserve game in midweek.

Striker Savage is looking for a place in the first XI after a couple of substitute appearances over the last week showed what Tranmere have been missing while he spent 11 months sidelined by a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Logan will be hoping for a recall after replacing loan signing Luke O’Neill in the second half of the Leeds game, while McCready has been quietly making his case for first-team selection since he began a loan from Northampton that runs until the end of the season.

Parry said: “I have got a lot thinking to do before Saturday afternoon. We have Ash Taylor available again, we also have Chris McCready doing well in the reserves and doing well around the place.”

Teenager O’Neill has impressed on a month’s loan from Leicester City but had a difficult game against Leeds and was withdrawn in the second half.

Parry said: “Luke is only a young player and had one of those nights on Tuesday when things were not going right for him. We had to bring Shaleum on to steady the ship.

“It was the right decision for Bas not to start the Leeds game and to bring him on at half-time. He tired towards the end of the game and I don’t think that had anything to do with his injury. It was because he had a chest problem at the start of the week. Bas is rested now and he’ll be hoping to play.”

Parry added: “The biggest problem is going to be picking the 18 players to travel. We are going to have to leave two senior professionals at home. But that’s a nice problem to have.”

Tranmere head to the

West Country holding a four-point advantage over the teams at the bottom.

Parry said: “Bristol Rovers are just outside the playoff places so they have to be a decent side. They are on the back of some good form, especially at home. But we will still go there believing we can get something from the game.

“We played well when we beat them at Prenton Park in December but on their own patch they will be a different proposition.”
