Tranmere youth hit back three times to claim a point against Rochdale

TRANMERE came from behind three times to earn a Puma Youth Alliance point in a thriller at Raby Vale.

Both teams came into the North West Conference game on the back of a run of victories and it was Rochdale who went ahead on 12 minutes following a set play.

Tranmere equalised when Dale Jennings started and finished a move by converting Jay Gibbs’ 18th-minute cross.

Rovers went 2-1 down on 24 minutes but were back on level terms on the half-hour when a fine move involving Jennings, Ellis Appleton, Gibbs and Tom Baker was finished off by Ross Rule.

The visitors edged ahead again just before the interval.

Tranmere, pressing hard for an equaliser through most of the second half, missed several chances before finally levelling on 83 minutes when Jennings surprised the keeper with a fierce low free-kick from a tight angle that found the bottom corner of the net.

Head of youth Kenny Shiels said: “It was most pleasing that the lads showed that character to come back from behind three times in the game.

It was a good performance.”

Tranmere travel to Carlisle in an Alliance fixture tomorrow, kick-off 11am.
