Southport 3-3 Droylsden

MATTY McGINN proved Southport's saviour for the second weekend running as his late penalty rescued a point against Droylsden.

Seven days after his point saving free-kick at Redditch United, the 26-year-old fired home an 88th minute penalty to level the scores at 3-3.

It was McGinn's second successful spot-kick of the game after he had given the Yellows a 2-1 lead just before the half hour mark as Port fought back from Earl Davis' fourth minute own goal.

Chris Simm made it two goals in as many matches to level the scores on 19 before McGinn gave Liam Watson's men a deserved half-time lead.

Southport were punished when Rob Lloyd stole in at the back post to equalise before Alex Brown delightfully chipped the Bloods ahead with just 15 minutes remaining.

But with Droylsden reduced to 10 men late on after the dismissal of Shaun Whalley, Port piled forward in search of the leveller and when Ashley Winn was felled in the area, McGinn kept his nerve to salvage a draw.

Port boss Liam Watson said: “We've conceded three poor goals and all in all we've got to be better. When you give teams like Droylsden the initiative they accept it. I can't really take much from the performance.”

l Prescot Cables had to fight back from an early set-back to record a third win in four.

Brown doubled his tally after 58 minutes to give Cables a 3-1 lead they held on to.
