ASPIRING young goalkeepers on the Wirral have the chance to tap into the expertise of former Tranmere goalkeeping legend Eric Nixon from next week.
“Eric Nixon’s Pro Shot Stoppers UK,” a six-week goalkeeping clinic, is launched on Monday evening at the Joseph Paxton School in Birkenhead.
Nixon, who holds a UEFA A license in goalkeeping coaching, says the course is designed to improve the skills of boys and girls aged between eight and 16.
Nixon added: “I am enthusiastic about this project because I always felt that goalkeeping is a neglected area of coaching.
“There is not enough specialist advice and coaching around for keepers who want to improve themselves so I’m trying to redress that balance.”
The one-hour sessions (5pm to 6pm) on the Astroturf pitches at the Joseph Paxton School in Park Road North, Birkenhead, cost £10 pounds or £50 for the six-week course.

Nixon, who made more than 450 appearances during Tranmere’s climb to the division now known as the Championship during the late 1980s and 90s, went on to serve Rovers as a goalkeeping coach.
He is currently working as a coach with Blue Square Conference North title chasers Fleetwood Town.
