LIVERPOOL-born striker Lee Trundle is ready to make his debut for the part-timers of Neath tonight after turning down the chance to prolong his playing career in league football.
The 33-year-old trained with Tranmere over recent weeks while he weighed up the options that followed his release from Bristol City at the end of last season.
Yeovil and Swindon Town are reported to have offered Trundle deals for the new season while Rovers manager Les Parry said he had not asked the question about the kind of terms the player would have been looking for to sign in at Prenton Park.
But Trundle, disappointed he was not offered the chance to return to Swansea City, the club where he became a cult hero between 2003 and 2007, was keen to remain in South Wales.
Wales Premier League side Neath are reported to have offered Trundle a £2000 a week package for this season.
Trundle said: “I had offers from elsewhere and I wanted to stay in the (South Wales) area and this is an ambitious club.”
Neath’s opponents tonight are Swansea City.
