TEENAGER Joe Collister believes in keeping a positive outlook on his exciting start to the season with Tranmere - no matter what fate befalls him this weekend.
The 18-year-old prospect has been thrust into the first-team spotlight at Prenton Park since the first week of the season, when a run of poor luck with injuries forced designated number one Gunnar Nielsen out of action.
However, Collister could be in danger of relinquishing the senior gloves against Charlton Athletic at Prenton Park tomorrow if manager Les Parry signs a goalkeeper on emergency loan.
Parry says he is ready to recruit extra cover for the goalkeeping position because Nielsen, who is on a six-month loan from Manchester City, is facing a layoff of several weeks with a shoulder injury.
Collister acknowledges he did not have the best game in a run of eight consecutive first-team appearances in the 3-1 defeat at Yeovil Town last Saturday.
He said: “You’ve got to learn from the bad experiences and take out the positive things. If you are negative it can have a knock-on effect. No day seems to be the same in football. You can be on top of your game one week and down and out of the team the next.
“That’s when you have got to be mentally strong and show people why you should be in the first-team.”
