Skelmersdale United defeat Wakefield 5-1 in FA Trophy preliminary round

SKELMERSDALE UNITED got their FA Trophy trail off to a stunning start against Wakefield.

In their preliminary round tie at the Skem & Ormskirk College Stadium on Saturday, United struck five past the Yorkshire side to book their place in today's first round draw as well as pocketing £2,000 in prize money.

Loanee Daniel Lloyd-McGoldrick fired Tommy Lawson's to a blistering start with the opening goal in the fifth minute before Ryan Wade doubled the advantage just past the half-hour mark.

Lloyd-McGoldrick added a third on 42 before Paul Woolcott made it 4-0 two minutes later. The former Marine flyer got Skem's fifth goal on the hour before Tom Denton pulled a consolation back for a shell-shocked Wakefield.

WARRINGTON TOWN will not be joining Skem in the next round after losing 2-1 at Shepshed Dynamo. Joey Dunn's men suffered a first defeat of the season as two goals right on half-time ended their Trophy bid. Chris Gahgan netted in Town’s losing cause.
