MANAGER Les Parry faces selection and tactical posers as Tranmere prepare for the League One encounter with Plymouth Argyle at Prenton Park this weekend.
Parry must gauge whether the oldest and youngest players in his squad – centre back Ian Goodison (37) and front man Dale Jennings (17) – are fit and ready for action against the Pilgrims after being rested in midweek.
The condition of the pair may influence how Parry sets up the side tomorrow. Rovers made a rare switch to a 4-4-2 formation in a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie at Bury and were rewarded with a 1-0 victory, earning them a place in the Northern semifinals of the competition.
Parry isn’t saying whether he intends to revert to a 4-3-3 system – the staple of his 13 months in charge of team affairs – against Plymouth.
The reshuffle at Bury allowed Parry to play both Aaron Cresswell and Zoumana Bakayogo, two players vying for the left back spot, in the same side, with Cresswell taking up the advanced role. It also saw Tranmere operate with two central strikers, Ian Thomas-Moore and Enoch Showunmi, while Jennings sat out the game on the substitutes bench.
Parry said: “We were going to play 4-4-2 three games ago but we picked up a couple of injuries which left us with personnel not suited to what we wanted to do.
