Mixed fortunes for local football sides in national competition

IN the Sunday National Cup JOB lost 3-1 to Lobster and Home & Bargain drew 2-2 after extra-time with Eden Vale but lost on penalties.

Alder keep the LBH flag flying with a fine win at Tower coming from behind to win 4-2, Paul O’Hare and Liam Caddick sharing the goals. The LCFA Cups also were being played and in the Premier Cup, Thirly had a 7-0 win over Kingston with hat-tricks for John Stannard and Chris Green (2) and have drawn a quarter-final spot against Melling Vics.

The Junior Cup had two of our three clubs going through to the quarter-finals. AFC Breckside beat Gears Utd 5-1, with Pat O’Sullivan hitting a hat-trick and Aintree Village going nap against Woodstreet, with Mick Jones (2), Harrison, Burton and Robinson on target but Regent lost 5-2 at Sankey Arms, Neil Edgar and Tom Kinsella getting their goals.

In the Intermediate Cup gave us three wins and W Carroll Roofing, Quarry Green Res and S T L went out but Jacky Mundos beat The Pingwood 5-0, LWV Printworks beat Milewalk 4-2 and HJC Stadium had a close victory over Ashburn 2-1.

In the Premier Division Blue Anchor beat Obiter 3-1 and in Division One, Larkspur beat St Teresa’s 5-1. Belfry finished up losing 4-3 against Rice Lane. Sefton Earls and BRNESCfinished 2-2 and it was 1 – 1 between Westbury and Star of the Sea but The King Harry maintained their winning ways against Pivillion Athletic, with a 5-1 win. Halewood Town Athletic had a 4-1 win over The Hyper in Division Two and Melbourne H & B were 5-0 winners at Heart of the City while The Breeze Hotel proved too strong for BRNESC Youth in a 5-1 win. Greystone drew 0-0 with Marsh in Division Three and The Pear Tree smashed Brookvale 8-0. Mags beat Aki’s Bar 4-1.
