Blackburn 2-2 Blackpool

BLACKBURN boss Steve Kean claimed the comeback to draw 2-2 with fellow strugglers Blackpool showed the character present in the Rovers squad.

The Ewood Park crowd booed their team off after two Charlie Adam goals gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at half-time, but Christopher Samba reduced the deficit in the 49th minute and Blackburn threw everything at their opponents before Junior Hoilett finally levelled in the third minute of injury time.

It was a morale-boosting point for Kean’s side, who began the match alongside their opponents a point above the relegation zone after a run of only one point from five games.

Kean said: “We could have felt sorry for ourselves, but I think the only time we have this season was the second half against Villa when we gave a penalty away.

“Full credit to the boys, they dug in and they weren’t going to accept that we weren’t going to get something from the game. We were desperate to get something and I think that shows the determination and the team spirit.”

Hoilett was the talisman for Blackburn, breaking through time and again on the left and setting up chances for his team-mates.

It was fitting that the 20-year-old Canada international should have the last word, heading in after Blackpool had failed to deal with a Paul Robinson free-kick.

Kean said: “He’s a great player. When you can get him in those wide areas one against one with the full-back, it must be so difficult for the defender.

“Junior was exceptional. He’s got the lot and I think he’s got a bright future. I just thought he needed a run in the team. He’s a match-winner.”
