Southport humble Tranmere in the Liverpool Senior Cup

SOUTHPORT humbled a Tranmere side packed with 11 full-time professionals to book a place in the Liverpool Senior Cup final.

Rovers fielded the strongest reserve team line-up they’ve put out all season as manager Les Parry sought to keep the squad in shape for the final 10 games of the League One campaign.

But the home side were unable to make much impression on a resolute Southport defence, and Southport showed more penetration going forward. Tony Gray and Steve Daly scored.

There was an alarm for the Sandgrounders when John Paul Kissock was stretchered off, but X-rays revealed only severe bruising.
