Float take cup by sinking Ferry in thrilling battle of Seacombe

THE Dutchman Cup final certainly lived up to expectations as the battle of Seacombe produced a fine game, with Great Float S&S springing a deserved surprise on their higher grade opponents by taking the cup with a 3-2 victory over Seacombe Ferry.

Float were in their stride early on and took a two-goal lead through Scott Palethorpe and James Harris, which they held until half-time. Then Mike Stevenson dispatched a penalty with ease to put his team 3-0 ahead.

A late rally by Ferry brought two goals in added time as Stewart Speed netted a penalty and Daren Pritchard scored from a corner, but the honours went to Float.

The Capitol Cup semi-finals saw team The Cheese shock Magee Cup holders Big House 2-1 as Paul Crosswaite and Leon Sait netted the goals, with Joe Hewson claiming the lone response.

Oyster Catcher got back to winning ways over Division Two team Nags Head as they ran out 6-0 winners, with Paul Howell bagging a treble.

So the last cup final of the season sees Division One team The Cheese taking on Premier winners Oyster Catcher in the Capitol Cup final, which will be staged at Victoria Park, Poulton, with an 11am kick-off on Sunday.

Irby FC enhanced their chances of promotion from Division One with a 4-0 defeat of FC Victoria as Chris Troake, Terry Ainsworth, Matty Kerr and Ryan Pulford scored.

Wirral Wanderers finished thir Division Two campaign on a high as they beat Phoenix 4-0, with a hat-trick from Jay Lloyd and Liam Kearns netting a single.

The only game in the Youth division ended in a 6-0 success for Christleton Youth over a depleted New Brighton Youth, but this was not enough to claim the title as they finished runners-up on goal difference to Northwood.

On target for Christleton were Connor Evans (2), Adam Wilson (2), Sam Burgess and Steve Lawrenson.
