Hard Cheese as Clare claims Capitol Cup for Oyster Catcher

IT was third time lucky for Oyster Catcher as they claimed the Capitol Cup by beating The Cheese after extra time.

Oyster took the lead after only three minutes with a great Paul Howell overhead kick, but within two minutes Cheese were level as Mike McGrath finished off a flowing move.

Just after the half hour James Clare put Oyster ahead again with a penalty, but just before the interval Peter Wright put Cheese on level terms again.

In the second period both sides missed chances so it took an excellent free-kick from Clare to claim the trophy for Oyster as he notched the winner in the extra period.

Townfield claimed third place in Division One after beating Irby FC (Andy James) 2-1, with Jim Hodgin and James Gillison firing the goals.

Nags Head romped to 4-2 victory over second-placed Birkenhead Vale in Division Two, thanks to efforts from Stuart Pritchard (2), Craig Clowes and Lee Parsons, with Steff Brennan and Dave Rowlands hitting the replies.

Champions Great Float S&S finished with a 6-2 success over Millhouse (Joe Curran and Liam Williams) as Anthony Anglesey, James Harris and Lee Fletcher all netted a brace.

The final game in the Youth division resulted in New Brighton Youth winning 4-2 against Heswall Youth as Craig Butterworth (2), Sean Gandy and Nathan Quilty scored the goals.

So as the season draws to a close – thanks to every team, committee member and match official for their hard work throughout the season.
