WEST KIRBY and Ashville were winners of the West Cheshire League’s annual curtain raiser to the season – the Bill Weight semi finals.
West Kirby demolished Runcorn Linnets Reserves 5-0, while Ashville beat Maghull 5-1. The pair will now meet in the final of the League’s charity competition next month.Ironically they also faced each other at the weekend in Division One.
Newly promoted Ashville won 3-0 at League champions West Kirby. Strikes from Dave Rudge, Tim Bigland and Lee Hammond earned the victory. Dave Swaine netted the winner as Heswall defeated Upton AA 1-0 at Gayton Park, while Lee Tynan bagged a brace as Maghull overcame Vauxhall Motors Reserves 4-2.
Anthony Carrollalso scored twice as Newton saw off Marine Reserves 3-0. A Jamie Kenyon goal wasn’t enough for Cammell Laird Reserve’s as Southport Trinity won 3-1. Colin McDonald (2) and Ben Johnson earned the win.
On Friday evening Nathan Ecclestone headed a brace for Ellesmere Port as they saw off Blacon YC 2-1. Christleton also won 2-1 as Steve Finlay netted both their goals against Willaston, who had Josh Williams on target. While Chester Nomads, through Mike Garrod, drew at Marshalls who had Lee Welsh scoring.
Division 2 began on Friday, Runcorn Linnets Reserves with goals from, Lewis Buckley (2), Ryan Dutton and Liam Page beat hosts West Kirby Reserves 4-3, who had Danny Mooney, Lee Davies and Lewis Morgan on target. Graham Carvell netted a hat trick for Beb Athletic, spearheading a 4-2 victory over Richmond Raith Rovers.
Ashville Reserves overcame Manor Athletic 3-0, Robbie Black, (2) and Peter Wright on target. Two free kicks from Sam Herbert couldn’t prevent Bronze Social going down 3-2 at home to Hale.
James Ormisher, Vassili Poza and Bob Pennington netted for Hale. Maghull Reserves earned a 4-2 win at Capenhurst Villa, Brad Smart (2) and Barqua Parvis (2) were on target, Steve Morgan bagged a brace for Villa. Marshalls Reserves had Kenny Gambo and Ollie Roberts netting in a 2-1 victory over Mallaby, Peter Rutter replied.
Lee Owens and an own goal gave Prescott Cable at 2-1 win over New Brighton for whom, Steve Lunt replied. Belfry overcame Neston Nomads in Division three, Danny Hart (2), Liam Langley and Dave Goredma found the net in a 4-2 success that saw Kevin Jackson and Pete Ward reply for Nomads. South Liverpool were also victorious,
Kevin Martin and Elliott Burnett struck in their 2-1 defeat of Capenhurst Villa Reserves, Mark Ryan netting for Villa. Gary Fletcher and John Weatherall were on target for Manor Athletic Reserves, as they gained a point in a 2-2 draw against Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves.Chester Nomads Reserves went down 2-0 at the hands of Mersey Royal.
