THE compensation fee for Aaron Cresswell’s move from Tranmere to Ipswich Town looks likely to be decided by an independent tribunal.
The two clubs have been unable to reach agreement on the figure after more than a month of wrangling and Ipswich manager Paul Jewell said: “We are going to a tribunal.”
Jewell picked Cresswell for the left-back sport in the first three Ipswich games since the season. He said of the 21-year-old Liverpudlian: “I think Cressy is going to be a good player for us. Actually I’d better not say too much because Tranmere will take cuttings to the tribunal!”
More seriously, Jewell saysŠCresswell has done well: “It’s a big step up for Cressy but he’s got better every day.
“I think at first he was a little bit edgy but he’s getting better and better and I think people can see the qualities he can bring to the team over a long period of time.”
Cresswell, a product of Tranmere’s youth development system, made 80 first-team appearances for Rovers and was a regular in Les Parry’s team last season. The youngster declined Rovers’ offer of a new contract at the end of last season and joined Ipswich as a free agent early in July. However, as the player is under the age of 24, Tranmere are entitled to aŠcompensation fee for their investment in developing his talent.
The Football League’s tribunal procedure is run by theŠ Professional Football Compensation Committee.
