LES PARRY admitted his Tranmere Rovers players had to dig deep before overcoming Accrington Stanley in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last night.
Rovers won 1-0 at the Crown Ground to secure a trip to Chesterfield in the area quarter finals of the competition early next month.
It was Tranmere’s second trip to Accrington in the space of eight days after the original tie between the two sides was abandoned last Tuesday due to a serious injury to home player Tom Bender.
Manager Parry said: “I thought Accrington were more up for the game this time. They closed us down better, they worked harder and we struggled with it, there’s no two ways about it. We deserved to win, but I think 1-0 was a fair result.”
Parry was once again unhappy with his team’s failure to capitalise on the chances they carved out.
