Tranmere Rovers FC defender David Buchanan targeting play-off push

DAVID BUCHANAN believes Tranmere Rovers have the potential to challenge for a play-off place this season.

The 25-year-old has wasted no time establishing himself as a regular since his summer switch from Hamilton Academicals, making 13 appearances as Les Parry’s side have enjoyed a fine start to their League One campaign.

Tranmere host Walsall at Prenton Park tomorrow knowing a win could move them to within a point of the top six, and Buchanan says now is the time to push on up the table.

“We have had a good start,” said the left-back. “We have not lost many games, and we are in a decent position in the league.

“But we are just at that stage now where we are looking to kick on and maybe threaten the top six.

“I think that we are good enough. We have got good players here, we are doing well and keeping clean sheets, and we are a tough team to beat.

Buchanan has started all-but-one of Rovers’ league games this season.

And the former Northern Ireland U21 star says he is happy with the way things are going.

“I think I have started the season really well,” he said. “I'm enjoying playing for the club, and long may it continue.

“It hasn't really surprised me how quickly I have settled in.

“I'm experienced enough to know that when you go into a new football club and a new environment you just have to prove yourself and take your time. When your chance comes you need to take it, and that's what I did.”
