FIRST round action in the Capitol Cup saw Great Float S&S flowing past AM Plant Hire with a 5-3 success in which James Harris (2), Tom Harris, Rob Bessell and an own goal did the damage.
Firing the responses were Tom Cubbin, Craig Hardman and Mark Sharrett. A Rob Langton hat-trick helped Dukes FC to lord it over Princes Villa from the youth division as they ran out 4-1 winners, with Chris Galvin bagging the fourth. A goal apiece from Steve Laycock, Mark Herbert and Tom Mole gave Windsor a 3-1 victory over another youth team – Upton Youth – to put them into round two.
Premier Division leaders Poulton Royal had a 4-2 win over Cheese FC, thanks to a Tom Carroll treble and Sean Robinson strike that brought them back from being behind twice.
Birkenhead Vale still lead Division One after beating Stanleys Cask 6-1, through Daren Sutton (3), Steve Dadoma, Kevin Jones and Matty Nolan.
Keeping pace are Primrose FC who beat Cetco Europe 3-2 in a hard fought encounter, but goals from John Pomphrett, Sean Cassidy and Andy McKinnon sealed the win, despite Daren Parry and Jamie Plant keeping Cetco in the game with good goals. Ross Pringle blasted a hat-trick for Irby FC in their 6-2 defeat of Upton FC and Scott Nixon, Sam Langan and Peter Reynolds added the extras.
Division Two action saw plenty of goals as Phoenix rose to the challenge to take the spoils versus Shippons FC in a nine goal thriller with a 5-4 success. On target were Mark Roberts (3), Mike Kinnealey and Brett Taylor. The Rakers also netted five goals when beating Sandbrook 5-1, with Tom Evans, Dan Connelly, Luke Dillon, Andy Richardson and an own goal securing the points. Oxton Villa and Rockpark FC shared six goals in their 3-3 draw as Carl Evans, Andy Mogan and Joe Lawler scored, with Jay Waters (2) and Kevin Doughty replying for the Rock.
