MUCH to the delight of their travelling fans Ashville overcame North West Counties side Formby 1-0 in Saturday’s first round FA Vase tie.

Cheshire FA Amateur cup second round action saw Willaston gain revenge for defeat in last season’s competition at the hands of Spurley Hey by overcoming the same opponents 2-1 courtesy of strikes by Dayo Akinlabi and Paul Ellison.
Another away day success came the way of Capenhurst Villa who had Mark Ryan, Tony Ashton, Mike Urmston and an own goal to thank for their 4-0 triumph at Govan Athletic.
A Paul Casey penalty 10 minutes from time was enough to enable West Kirby to advance to round three at the expense of Crewe FC but Manor Athletic bowed out by the same scoreline at Dukinfield Town. Defensive mistakes in the early part of each half put Newton on the back foot against visiting Middlewich and with their forwards in goal shy mood the hosts eventually went down to a dispiriting 3-0 defeat.
In the all-West Cheshire clashes, First Division Christleton were given a fright by Second Division Bronze Social. Steve Egan and Lee Dermody netted for the hosts while another Steve Finlay double counted for Christleton who won the penalty shoot out 4-3.
Ellesmere Port (Peter McNulty) also required spot kicks to make progress after sharing two goals with Upton AA (Simon Andrews) while a George Pulford effort was enough for Chester Nomads to advance at the expense of New Brighton.
Cammell Laird Reserves (John Johnson, John Wheadon, Matty Houghton, own goal) edged a seven goal thriller at Vauxhall Motors Reserves (Craig Cairns 3).
