TRANMERE ROVERS FC will have to make an 11th-hour decision on whether Andy Robinson can return to action as the creative pivot of the attack against Colchester United this weekend.
Manager Les Parry would like to slot the 31-year-old straight back into the side at Prenton Park tomorrow, after losing Jose Baxter to a three-match suspension.
But Robinson wasn’t able to make the “all systems go” sign after playing his first full match in more than two months in a friendly against Bradford City played behind closed doors this week.
And Parry says he will be reluctant to risk Robinson if there is a danger of aggravating the hamstring problem that has kept him out for the first team since the end of August.
Parry said: “Andy played 90 minutes for the reserves and we’ve had a little chat about how he is feeling about Saturday.
“He still a little bit unsure.
“I don’t like taking chances with players so whether he is involved, whether we put him on the bench or not I’m not sure yet.”
Robinson and Baxter, the 19-year-old on loan from Everton, have the skills to operate “in the hole” just behind the central striker and each played the role to positive effect for Tranmere this season.
Parry says he is unlikely to ask another member of the squad to play the role, so Robinson’s absence could well result in a tactical change against The U’s
