Burscough disappointing campaign takes another dip with defeat by Frickley

BURSCOUGH’S disappointing campaign in the Evo-Stik League’s Premier Division continued on Saturday as visitors Frickley Athletic earned a 3-1 victory at the West Lancashire College Stadium.

Oliver Ryan’s goal after two minutes put the Linnets in an early hole, but Mark Beesley netted an equaliser seven minutes later.

Frickley’s Bradley Grayson restored the visitors’ lead midway through the opening period, and their victory was assured when Ben Turner hit a third goal nine minutes from time.

In the Evo-Stik First Division North, Skelmersdale United’s quest for the title remains on course as they grabbed a 2-1 win at Farsley FC.

Elsewhere in the division, Prescot Cables recorded a fine 5-2 win at home to Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Warrington Town were also on the right side of a high-scoring match at home to Ossett Albion, winning 3-2.

Trailing to Dale Kelly’s 33rd-minute opener for Albion, Kyle Hamid equalised for Warrington early in the second period.

Chris Thompson then netted on 62 minutes to give Town the lead only for Doran Jordan to level matters just 60 seconds later. Thompson, however, struck again on 66 minutes with what was to prove the match-winner.

Cammell Laird were on the wrong end of a 4-0 result at AFC Fylde, on a miserable afternoon for the Wirral side.
