Townson nets in Fazakerley’s win

LCFA Cup Competitions took centre stage with the usual mixed bag and two of the four teams the league had playing in the Premier Cup had a successful day with Fazakerley getting through against Dengo United with a Kev Townson strike and Netherley Wood Lane Legion with Alex Strannack, Ryan Nasser and an own goal hitting the net as they eased their way past one of the league’s old teams Canada with a 3-1 win. It was hard luck for St Sebastian’s Anthony Walker whose double strike took Fantail into extra time but then found themselves on the losing end of a 5-2 score line and J O B, Kaz Cole lost 4-1 to Salisbury Athletic.

The Junior Cup saw 11 of the league’s teams starting trying to progress in the competition four of whom were playing each other with Mossley Hill beating last year’s beaten finalists Aintree Village 3-2 and Nicosia with a Dean Buckley double just getting the better of BRNESC 2-1. Of the other ties it was success for St Teresa’s with Alan Hayes 2 and Darryl Adams giving them a 3-1 win and Gears Utd had Chris Hutton (2) Ash Gibiluru and Danny Dunne on target in a 4-0 win over St William of York. Gary Gamble (2), Neil Edgar and Andy Minshall saw Regent through 4-3 in a seven goal thriller with Freshfield and Melbourne H & B beat Woodale 4-0 with Cam Dalton (2), Jamie English and Rob Deakin on target.

The league’s other teams finished on the losing end of their games Everton Red Triangle losing 1-0 to Ashley Travel, Sefton Earls were in the lead twice Kelly and Baines on target but lost out to a penalty in the last five minutes as Kirkby RAFA took the tie 3-2 and Rice Lane lost 3-0 to The Herald.

In the Intermediate Cup Woodstreet lost 2-1 at Kirkstall but all three of the league’s other teams – LMV Printworks, Greystone and Pumptech – met with success.
