THREE goals in the opening 10 minutes set Tranmere on the way to a comfortable Football League Youth Alliance victory over Wigan at Raby Vale.
Jake Kirby (two) and Chris Lynskey were the players on target as Tranmere dominated during the first half. Oscar Durnin scored the fourth to make it 4-1 in the second half before the visitors notched another consolation.
Head of Youth Shaun Garnett said: "It wasn't our best performance but it was pleasing considering the lads had a very tough FA Youth Cup game against Sheffield United at the start of the week.”
Tranmere have been drawn away to Stockport County in the second round of the Youth Alliance Cup.
They eliminated Blackpool in round one.
