Non-League teams set for busy weekend in FA Vase and league action

RUNCORN TOWN are the only local non-League team not involved in the ‘bread and butter’ of league matches tomorrow afternoon.

The North West Counties outfit are on their travels to Glasshoughton Welfare for a second round tie in the FA Carlsberg Vase.

The sides have never met in their history and Runcorn will go into the match full of confidence as they currently lead the North West Counties League’s Premier Division.

After their FA Cup exit at the hands of Barnet last Saturday and defeat at Lancaster City in the Lancashire Challenge Cup on Tuesday, Southport will endeavour to return to their splendid form in the Blue Square Premier Division when they entertain bottom club Bath City at Haig Avenue.

In Blue Square North, Vauxhall Motors, once again under manager Carl Macauley who returned to Rivacre Park on Sunday, visit fellow strugglers Workington.

Chester FC will be aiming to keep their title push on track in the Evo-Stik League’s Northern Premier Division when they host Matlock Town.

Elsewhere, Kevin Lynch’s Marine welcome Frickley Athletic to the Arriva Stadium. And Burscough, who currently prop up the division, will be hoping for a morale-boosting three points when they visit Mickleover Sports.

In the Evo-Stik League’s First Division North’s game of the day, Tommy Lawson’s second-placed Skelmersdale United entertain leaders Curzon Ashton.

Meanwhile, Warrington Town are at Woodley Sports, Prescot Cables visit AFC Fylde while Cammell Laird, mired second-from-bottom, travel to Ossett Town.

In the North West Counties League’s Premier Division, Chris O’Brien’s third place Bootle team host Atherton LR. Elsewhere, AFC Liverpool will be hoping to move off the foot of the table by getting maximum points at home to Flixton, Runcorn Linnets visit Silsden while St Helens Town travel to Maine Road.

In the North West Counties League’s First Division, Formby host Northwich Villa.
