Tranmere Rovers FC have those extra reserves as they reach Liverpool Senior Cup semi-finals with victory over Cammell Laird

A YOUNG Tranmere reserves side earned a place in the semi-finals of the Liverpool Senior Cup – but only after being taken into extra time by non-League neighbours Cammell Laird at The Kirklands.

Lairds took the lead through Paul Cliff’s Šshot from an angle but Max Power fired home the equaliser from a well-worked corner routine on 37 minutes.

Rovers survived a couple of narrow escapes in the second half before Cole Stockton gave them a 74th-minute lead.

Laird levelled the scores eight minutes from time through Chey Dysart.

However, Shaun Garnett’s side took control in extra-time. Ellis Appleton fired home at the far post then Stockton found the roof of the net with a powerful effort.

TRANMERE: Coughlin, Danny Holmes, Kay, Vaulks, Bakayogo (Joyce), Wainwright (Lynskey), Power, Kirby, Appleton, Conchie (Jordan Holmes), Stockton.
