OWAIN FON WILLIAMS insists the “positive spirit” inside the Tranmere dressing room does not change as results fluctuate.
And that makes the Welsh-born goalkeeper confident Rovers will bounce back as they head to Exeter City this weekend seeking to end a run of five league and cup games without a victory.
Fon Williams said: “I think the feel-good factor in our dressing room plays a massive part in our league form, which is pretty good.
“You can speak to players at other clubs and they say the season is dragging for them now. But not here.
“Is a great set of lads here and we tend to bounce off each other. It’s a positive spirit. There’s competition between us for places and that’s good because it keeps us on our toes.”
In spite of some disappointing results in recent games, Tranmere are just a couple of points off the League One play-off zone as they approach the long trip to St James Park on Saturday. And Fon Williams insists those results don’t reflect the quality of Rovers’ performances.
He said: “We are looking to carry on with our league form because overall it’s been excellent. The results have not always gone for us in the last few weeks but we’ve shown what we can do as a team.
“We have nothing to prove. The focus is on doing the best job we can in the next game.”
Tranmere’s performance in the 2-1 defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday earned some complimentary remarks from visiting manager Gary Megson. It was a similar story after Tranmere’s goalless draw with Colchester United a fortnight earlier when John Ward made some positive comments.
Manager Les Parry said: “It was good to get a little bit of consolation because Gary Megson and John Ward are two Šmanagers I respect a lot. For them to say decent things about us means a lot. But it is no good being a good team if you are not winning games.”
The season so far has fallen into a pattern of one good month of results – such as August and October – being followed by a month of disappointing results – September and November.
Parry said: “Lets hope we are due for a very good December!”
He added: “When you look at September, we played some very hard games that month.
“This month we had gone out of two cup competitions, which is a little bit different. Whatever the months say, we’ve got to get back on the winning trail.”
Meanwhile Exeter have extended the loan spell of Reading midfielder Jake Taylor until the end of December.
Taylor, 19, has made a big impact since moving to St James Park in September, scoring two goals in eight League One starts for the Grecians.
The Wales under-21 international scored in Exeter’s Š2-2 draw at Yeovil ŠlastŠSaturday.
