Tranmere Rovers FC responding to Kevin Summerfield and John McMahon in training

LES PARRY believes Tranmere Rovers FC are finding two voices better than one as they plough through a fortnight of training ground work designed to put the winning edge back into the team.

Assistant manager Kevin Summerfield and coach John McMahon operate in tandem to set the routines and disciplines each day and Parry said: “The lads’ response has been brilliant.”

Rovers return to League One action with a home game against MK Dons on Saturday, two weeks after their last outing, a 3-0 defeat at Exeter City, left them without a win in six league and cup games and Šfive points adrift of the play-off places.

Parry said: “Being without a game last weekend we have been able to put in a lot of work on the training ground. It is important the coaches make the work interesting. That’s one of the reasons I insist on having two coaches.

“I’ve seen in the past when you just have the manager – and there are not many managers today who do any coaching, even here – you just see the first-team coach taking training every day.

“It does not matter how good they are. It is still a bit like Groundhog Day every morning. Our two coaches Kevin and John are both excellent, both UEFA pro license, so they can change things a bit for the lads. I think that makes them more responsive.”
