Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez and Swede Peter Hanson clinched the last automatic spots in Europe's Ryder Cup side when they did what they had to do at Gleneagles - and England's Simon Dyson came up short.
But the Johnnie Walker Championship excitement was not finished there as Edoardo Molinari, pushing hard for a wild card pick later in the day, birdied the 16th and 17th holes to join Australian Brett Rumford in the lead.
The second birdie was a dramatic curling 30-footer that went in to huge cheers and a roar from the player himself.
Jimenez had to finish in the top nine and was in fourth place, while Hanson needed top 43 and ended up in a tie for 19th.
Dyson needed to win in any case and despite a hat-trick of birdies from the 15th the damage was done earlier in the windy conditions. He was sixth.
