Scots suffer Spain defeat

Scotland staged a spirited comeback from two goals down in their Euro 2012 qualifier against Spain at Hampden but still found the world champions too strong as they recorded a 3-2 defeat.

David Villa put the visitors ahead from the spot just before the break and Andres Iniesta doubled their lead 10 minutes after the restart. A Steven Naismith header soon after gave the home side a lifeline before Spain defender Gerard Pique put through his own goal trying to cut out a James Morrison cross, but substitute Fernando Llorente restored the visitors' lead with a header.

In the dying moments Steven Whittaker, booked for hand ball at the penalty, was shown a second yellow after a tackle on Sergio Ramos.
