WIDNES VIKINGS had to settle for finishing the regular Co-operative National League One season in second place after Castleford sensationally secured top spot.
The Tigers sealed the the most favourable play-off route with a stunning 106-0 rout of Rochdale, scoring 19 tries on their way to a club record win with Michael Shenton, Andrew Henderson and Danny Williams each claiming hat-tricks.
Danny Brough crossed twice and added 11 goals for a 30-point haul while Mark Leafa also touched down twice.
The Tigers' victory meant Widnes finished behind them by a solitary point despite a 34-18 win at Batley.
