Rugby League: Salford City Reds 18, Warrington Wolves 22

WARRINGTON Wolves completed their preparations for the new Super League season with a hard-earned victory against National League Salford.

The Wolves fielded a near full-strength side for their final pre-season game before they kick off the new campaign with a home clash with Hull in 12 days’ time.

Lee Briers was not risked after suffering a back spasm during training and Stuart Reardon and Paul Wood are still awaiting medical clearance after shoulder operations.

Paul Cullen’s side trailed 18-6 after 55 minutes but three tries in a nine-minute spell from Andy Bracek, Jon Clarke and Paul Rauhihi, and two conversions from Chris Bridge, spared Warrington’s blushes.

The Wolves got off to a flying start when Ben Westwood sent Martin Gleeson over for the opening try after just four minutes and Bridge converted.

Salford were level at half-time and then led 18-6 with 25 minutes remaining after tries from Adam Sidlow and Phillip Leuluai. John Wilshere kicked three conversions.
