Rugby League: Vinnie Anderson's sympathy for Hull injury woe

WARRINGTON loose forward Vinnie Anderson is full of sympathy for his side’s injury-hit opponents ahead of tomorrow’s opening Super League match.

Hull will kick off the new season without seven first-choice players.

It is the sort of injury crisis that Warrington suffered in 2007, with Anderson one of the unlucky victims in his first season at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The former New Zealand international made just two appearances in the second half of the year because of persistent back problems and, after three operations failed to find a cure, needed the off-season to complete his rehabilitation.

Anderson, who joined Warrington from St Helens just over a year ago, admits he contemplated retirement at one point but the prospect of playing once more alongside younger brother Louis drove him on.

“But luckily enough I was able to get it right so I don’t have to think about that any more.

“I’ve had a long pre-season and done a lot of rehab and extra training to try and get right.

“I got through the trial matches all right and now I’m looking forward to Friday,” he said.
