CASTLEFORD coach Terry Matterson was reluctant to comment on Dwain Chambers’ imminent switch to rugby league after the Tigers’ defeat at Bradford.
Chambers is set to be unveiled today but Matterson suggested he had not been involved in the deal that had brought the shamed sprint star to West Yorkshire and was more concerned with his team’s performance.
When questioned about Chambers, Matterson said: “I don’t want to talk about that. All I’m worried about is the team and, to be honest, that hasn’t got a hell of a lot to do with me.
“I’ll be honest with you – I don’t know much about it. I haven’t dealt with it at all. I know a little bit about him but I’d rather not comment on it, to be honest.”
Asked whether Chambers could feature in Castleford’s reserves next week, Matterson said: “I don’t know.”
The Tigers conceded nine tries – including a Semi Tadulala hat-trick – as Bradford ran riot Wayne Godwin, James Evans, Paul Sykes, Ben Jeffries, Shontayne Hape and Chris Nero also touched down while Paul Deacon added six goals from eight attempts.
Meanwhile, Hull KR head coach Justin Morgan regarded his side’s 24-24 draw against Huddersfield Giants as a point lost while predictably his opposite number Jon Sharp was pleased with his side’s efforts.
Morgan was unhappy with the try which his side conceded from dummy-half in the first period and was not too happy with the fact that Rod Jensen’s try also came from a kick.
“I would definitely say this was a point lost. We were our own worst enemy at times. We were controlling the game but silly moments let them back into it,” Morgan said.
